Managing Director, Institutional Sales

Ed Hackney serves as Managing Director of Institutional Sales at Pave Finance, Inc. and Pave Securities, LLC., the wholly-owned broker-dealer subsidiary. Ed focuses on connecting institutional and high-net-worth investors to Pave’s platform, drawing on more than four decades in wealth management. His experience, network, and ability to cultivate client relationships are vital to the firm's growth at both the enterprise and SMB level.

Ed joined Pave in May 2023 as part of the company's early commercial build-out. In his words, “bringing institutional asset management services to the public” is what drew him to the company. After a brief sabbatical that he candidly describes as “flunking retirement,” Ed reconnected with Chris Ainsworth, and the conversation turned into an invitation to help build something new. Pave’s mission to provide institutional-grade financial services to the broader public resonated with everything Ed had spent his career doing, now applied in a modern, tech-driven direction.

Before Pave, Ed spent twelve years as an investment advisor, followed by thirty years in institutional sales, working with defined benefit plan sponsors and the institutional consultant community to place investment strategies across some of the largest pools of capital in the country. His background has shaped both his network and his approach, and he credits the brilliant presenters and colleagues he has worked alongside with sharpening the craft of the sale itself.

Ed holds a B.A. in Political Science from Hanover College, where he played both baseball and basketball. He often says how the discipline of competitive sports translates directly to the sales arena, and that his competitive streak is something he openly leans into. In his free time, Ed is an avid reader, loves to exercise, enjoys social gatherings with friends, and spends as much time as he can with his grandchildren.
